As most of you who have been memebers for more than a year know my call sign Roughneck wasn't chosen on a whim because I thought it sounded cool. I really was a Roughneck working those rigs from dawn to dusk, and lets face it Roughneck sounds better than Rig Pig. Also most of you know I left Roughnecking to move to Utah to go to school, and actually get to spend some time with my family.
Well school went good I had no problems passing the classes, but it just isn't for me. Even while going to school here in Utah I still worked in the oil field as a roustabout. Last month I was offered a job by a ceo of Schlumberger, and I decided to take it. It has great benefits, I will have weekends off, and holidays (something I never had while roughnecking),and it pays well. It pays a little over $5k a month. Nothin to brag about, but it is more than enough to support myself, and my family and live comfortably.
I will be leaving in august for 6 weeks of training for this job after that I have a couple choices on where I can live. One place is Rock springs Wyoming, and the other is Williston North Dakota. I am leaning towards North Dakota, but have not made up my mind. I would love to hear from some of you guys that have lived in western North Dakota, or have driven through Williston. Looking it up online helped some. The pop is only 12k, and the crime rate is low. Looks like it would have good fishing being next to the missouri river. I think the cost of living will be lower compared to Rock Springs, but I don't know for sure.
I sure could use some more knowledge about North Dakota to make my final decision. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
